The mission of the Halo Excel Travel Team Program is to develop young people of excellence through advanced basketball competition.excel-logo-2012

We believe that competition should be challenging and fun, appropriate for the age level and help players excel in skill and character while avoiding the burnout common to today’s young athletes.  Excel team members gain a sense of community and personal responsibility, while being encouraged to excel as leaders both on and off the court.

TRYOUTS

Tryouts are open to the community, except for players who are members of another basketball travel team.  Players who have participated in past seasons must try out for the team again.  Teams typically have 10 players on the roster. Players are selected by the Excel Board (Excel coaches and advisers) and placed on teams strategically according to skill, character and team needs.

IMPORTANT: Players must bring the following to the tryout in order to participate:

  • $20 Cash or check (payable to Halo Excel)
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of most recent report card (minimum 2.5 GPA)

The season runs from February through June/July (depending on the team).  Practices are held 2-3 times per week at a local gym, typically for 2-3 hours per session.  The tournaments take place on weekends, with the exception of at least one weekend per month, and are located within a 4-5 hour drive.

ACADEMICS
Excel team members strive to excel academically, maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Excel team members learn to lead by serving others. Each team participates in at least one service project during the season.

FUNDRAISERS
In an effort to lower the participation fee, players and their parent(s) are required to participate in the Excel Free Throw Fundraiser and other fundraisers.

PARENT COMMITMENT
Excel parents make a commitment to support their child, as well as the coaching staff and players of their team according to team guidelines.

FEES
Participation fees are projected to be approximately $400 per player (amount varies by team). Parents are responsible for paying participation fees on time.
